How to Achieve Your WHY

The tactical steps we all execute when we achieve something great

Hey all - Happy Sunday!

We left off last week discussing what gets you up in the morning, and how the journey toward reaching that WHY starts with actions and behaviors that stack up.

The best way to reach that WHY is to break it up into component pieces that are the UNIQUE combination of skills and abilities you need to acquire and achieve in order to live your why.

For example, let's assume your why is to become a local sourdough bread shop owner. Think about what you need to achieve in order to get there.

You'll need to:

  1. KNOW HOW TO MAKE GREAT SOURDOUGH BREAD (DUH) 🥖

  2. Understand your personal and business expenses for the next foreseeable time horizon as a business owner to live and stay in business. 💸

  3. Acquire space, equipment, and supplies. 🤖

  4. Produce, market, sell, and distribute your product. 🚛

  5. Run payroll, manage tax payments, service debt obligations, expand your awareness on social media, train employees, consider product lines, calibrate store hours, etc. etc... 😩

The list goes on, but the point here is that in order to reach your goal, you need to break it into bite-sized chunks and tackle issues one thing at a time.

Your health + wellness is no different!

Like a thriving small business, your health + wellness is a symbiotic, interconnected system BUT trying to optimize everything at ONCE is a recipe for disaster. Instead, consider one skill or ability you'd like to sharpen.

Maybe before learning how to become an expert at Google AdWords for your sourdough business, you need to make your first load of sourdough!

The same goes for your body. Maybe before trying to squat 2X your body weight, you need to get a pulse on how well you're sleeping and establish consistent sleep hygiene.

The point can be demonstrated with any number of health + wellness examples, but the takeaway is this:

‼️ Work backward from the goal, understand skills and achievements needed to reach it, pick one low hanging fruit that is a solid foundation to build upon, and keep stacking up wins. ‼️

It's that simple.

Until next time!

Yours in Health,

Nolan
